Summer Must-Have: New Shapewear Swimsuits

I have a love hate relationship with summer. Love having fun with the kids outside, hitting the beach, picnicking, grilling and a gazillion other things I could rattle off. But there’s only one thing I really hate about summer: swimsuits. Thankfully, I have a lot of hope that this summer will be different for two reasons. First, one-piece swimsuits are actually a big trend—even skinny girls are wearing them. Yay! Second, the shapewear trend has also caught on with swimsuit designers. (You’ll notice that a lot of my fashion write-ups are about clothes that not only look trendy, but work for you, like my Skinny Jeans And All post.) With some strategic color blocking, tummy flattening spandex and flattering necklines, there are actually quite a few swimsuits that look super chic, whittle away your middle and also hold you in place while you’re running after your kids with a bottle of sunscreen. Here are three that I like (shown above):

1. Spanx Riveting Ruched One Piece, $188. Of course Spanx has the slimming shapewear thing down pat. This monotone classic cut is flattering on all body types and also comes in black and blue. I love the adjustable straps that make it easy to find the perfect fit.
2. Anne Taylor Color Blocked One Piece Suit, $118. The color blocking on this swimsuit is on trend and tricks the eye to seeing a slimmer you. Genius!
3. Miracle Suit DD Helix One Piece Swimsuit, $142. This is another shapewear swimsuit that uses a special type of Lycra to create the slimmest silhouette possible. The chic color blocking also enhances the effect. The wide straps and square neckline make it a great sporty suit.
