New York Fashion Week 2014 just wrapped up and we were busy backstage scoping out the newest trends. One of our favorite topics: nails, nails, nails! From mattes, prints and even two-tone patterns, many manis stood out on the runway, sometimes even becoming more of a must-have trend than the clothes themselves. One of the major nail trends that we noticed: the return of nudes. Easy! Simple! Yay! Fresh, romantic neutral colors popped against many of the bolder colors of the clothes. Here are some of the best nude nail polishes we spied backstage. Yeah, we won’t wait until next fall/winter to wear these. We’re on it right now!
Deborah Lippmann at Kate Spade
We’re huge fans of the fun, bright and chic style of Kate Spade. Her collection for the Fall / Winter 2014 was filled with bright yellows, pinks, reds and blues. To compliment such bold colors, lead manicurist, Deborah Lippmann, created an elongated nail and used two coats of her Naked Nail Lacquer, $18, a bare beige. To follow, she used her Gel Lab Top Coat (only available as part of the Gel Lab Set, $45) to prevent any chipping, while models did quick changes and posed for the camera.
Essie at Milly
Milly’s fun textures and silhouettes always keep us on the lookout for what she’ll design next. This year, Milly’s Fall / Winter 2014 collection was inspired by the beauty of ballet dancers, so no wonder Michelle Saunders of Essie layered two beautiful soft, sheer nudes (each $9) to compliment each style to perfection look. Saunders applied one coat of a new shade from Essie Resort 2014 collection Cocktails and Coconuts and then, once dry, layered one coat of Mademoiselle. And of course, Good to Go Top Coat, $8. Look how happy that model is! (Photo courtesy of Milly’s Instagram)
OPI at Reem Acra
From the runway to the red carpet, Reem Acra has made to-die-for gowns that have been worn by many Hollywood moms, such as Olivia Wilde and Jessica Alba. At this season’s show, to add a chic and clean touch to Reem’s decadent collection, the OPI nail team chose Barre My Soul, $8, to walk the runaway.
JINsoon at TIBI
Tibi’s collection was filled with cozy textures and pops of warm colors that were all tailored to perfection. To emphasize those warm colors, celebrity manicurist Jin Soon Choi created a neutral nail with a twist. First she applied two coats of Nostalgia, a beige pinkish nude color, $18, and then, after it dried, swept on one coat of Polka White (available in March) to give nails a sparkling texture.
Julep at Trina Turk
Trina Turk makes us love color and prints. Her Fall Winter 2014 collection perfectly mixed and matched different prints. (FYI, that white and black checkered cross-body bag is a must-have, courtesy of Instagram) A deep opaque nude polish leveled the playing field amongst a sea of colored fabrics and bold patterns. Models nails with were painted with two coats of Julep Annemarie Nail Lacquer, $14, a warm cocoa color. And of course, to keep each mani smooth, sleek and fast backstage before the show, Julep used Ta-Da! Quick Dry Drops, $14.
