How to wear a crop top without trying too hard to look young.

How To Wear A Crop Top (When You’re Not 19)

If you’re anything like me, when you hear the two words “crop top” you have images in your mind of Miley Cyrus and would rather walk on nails than put one on. Well, if you hadn’t heard, this trend isn’t going away and is back bigger than ever for spring. Oy! But don’t fret— crop top does NOT have to mean tight and belly baring. Like most moms who have birthed a kid or two (except you, Gwyneth Paltrow), I don’t have a six pack, or any number of packs. I personally prefer not to show any skin. But there are many ways to sport this look that are age appropriate and less revealing. So I’ve rounded up some ideas of how to wear this trend in real life…

Tip #1: Wear a crop top with with high waisted pants or skirt.  (Examples shown above). You can even wear it blouse-y so you don’t feel like every move will reveal some unflattering bulge here or there. I also love the monochromatic look, which makes the overall look simple and fuss-free, yet on trend.

Tip #2: Layer a crop top over a white button down shirt. This is my personal favorite because it doesn’t bare any skin and you can feel comfortable running around town all day in it. Pair it with jeans or slim pants.

My Picks To Buy: Here’s what I think would be worth buying this spring.

crop top to buy

1. Alice + Olivia Connelly Crop Top, $198. I like this striped one that would liven up a white button down underneath. Wear this with a high waisted skirt or layered over a longer shirt.

2. Topshop Scallop Hem Textured Tee, $68. The sleeve length is so flattering, Also, it’s not too tight, not too flow-y, and can be worn on its own or layered over another shirt.

3. ASOS Kimono Sleeve Crop Top, $47. This flowy number has a classic edge to it. It would  be beautiful with a high waisted pencil skirt or pants.
