I’m not a huge fan of self-tanners, but I do love that sun-kissed glow. After having spent several months under layers and layers of winter clothes in the East Coast deep freeze, it was a shock when I headed out to Santa Barbara for spring break and realized just how white and pasty my body really was. So embarrassing, especially considering line of work. How I still get caught off guard like this after so many years of being a beauty editor, I don’t know. Probably, because I’m forever on the hunt to find a self-tanner that I actually enjoy. So basically, self-tanning is not a task I look forward to, but I consider it a necessary evil.
But it’s less evil now that I’ve tried the new Jergens Natural Glow Exclusive Tanning Collection. I’ve long been a fan of their Gradual Self-Tanners, so I was definitely game to try the new Instant Sun Sunless Tanning Mousse, $12, which creates the same kind of natural looking color as the gradual tanner, just faster. I also like that it is tinted, so you can see if you missed any spots, and the light airy foam was easy to massage in and dried quickly. To prep my skin, I used the Color Primer In-Shower Scrub, $9, to shed my winter layer of dry skin—that required quite a bit of muscle, but the amino acids and exfoliating beads definitely helped. My favorite product in the new collection is the Tan Extender Daily Moisturizer, $9, which prevents all your hard work from fading and makes your skin look soft with a beautiful sheen—and puts off having to self-tan again for about another week.
Bottom line: As you head in Memorial Day weekend, if you’re freaking out about how white you legs look as I did before Spring Break, just head to drugstore and pick up some Jergens Natural Glow. I’m sure you have far more pressing issues to figure out, and feeling good about how you looks shouldn’t stress you out——like packing up the kids, digging out the goggles and sun hats, stocking up on sunscreen, the list goes on….
